Two-street Taiping town

Sunday, February 20, 2011

For those who follow closely on my programme ‘Destinasi Bajet’, chances are you’ll remember my trip to the historical town of Taiping. Here’s a summary (together with pictures) on my activities and trip around the two-street town.

Since I explored the town by foot except for certain attractions such as Bukit Larut, Taiping Lake Gardens and Taiping Zoo, I had a chance to check out the various old architectures from the stucco facades with striking wooden shutters to modern buildings.

And of course my trip to Taiping is not complete without spending some time to visit the zoo. Night Safari, the first unique tourism product in Malaysia enables you to enjoy the treasures of the nature as the splendour is enhanced by the moonlight. Plan your trip ahead because Taiping Zoo and Night Safari are usually packed during the weekends from out of town day-trippers.

Before I leave this historical town, I dropped by the beautiful and captivating Lake Gardens. Surrounded by flower beds and trees, the park is a great destination for nature enthusiasts. What are you waiting for? Start packing your luggage and get down to Taiping with your family and friend.

The sloppiest burger in town

Juicy patty beef burger served with two slices of cheese will make you come back every week! A trip to US is not complete without trying out the world famous road star burger. With side servings of coleslaw, sweet potato fries and onion rings, the burger is served on a seeded soft bun.

If you are searching for the sloppiest and most gratifying burger, look no further because American Roadside Burger is definitely your choice. The burger tastes as good as it looks because to me, every bite taste's like heaven. Dripping with juicy goodness, I couldn't resist but to take away some as my dinner.

Juicy and succulent Ayam Berempah in Seri Kembangan

Crisp on the outside and succulent on the inside – Ayam Berempah together with savoury and fragrant sambal forms a great combination. Highly recommended by my friends, I decided to stop by one day to try this fabulous Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah located in Seri Kembangan. For those who are not familiar with the area, fret not because you can easily locate it since the stall is opposite Happy Food Court and behind Esso Petrol Station.

I have tasted Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah from various stalls located within the vicinity but none came close to their taste. Served with normal white rice and spicy sambal, it leaves you asking for more. A pack of nasi lemak costs only RM3.80 but you can add additional rice by paying 20 cents extra and around RM2.50 for a piece of tender chicken thigh.

What makes the Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah here different from most other stalls is perhaps due to the secret recipe of tasty sambal that originates from Medan, Indonesia while the recipe for the crispy and juicy chicken is from the Kelantanese stall owner.

Chicken fried to perfection is not just an ordinary meal. Drive to the stall by 4.30 pm because you’ll see people flocking in during dinnertime. You’re really missing out one of the best Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah if you aren’t driving to the place to get a taste of the tender and juicy chicken hot from the wok.
